Deepavali 2026: Festive Home Curtains Before Guests Arrive
By Prime Decor Furnishing

Deepavali falls on Sunday, 8 November 2026. The Ministry of Manpower’s public holidays for 2026 (16 June 2025) lists that Sunday and notes that Monday, 9 November 2026, will be a public holiday. MOM’s current public-holidays page adds the rest-day line: Monday, 9 November 2026, will be a public holiday if your rest day falls on 8 November 2026. For a home, the useful reading is simpler. Open house and family visits cluster on the Sunday, and many households also have the Monday. If you want new curtains hung before guests arrive, book the measure now — not the week the kolam goes down.
The living room needs cloth that still lets diyas and string lights read when people are in the flat. Bedrooms need a night layer after a late evening. Every opening is measured on site. Measurement is free.
Measure now if you want the cloth up before guests
Made-to-measure curtains are cut after someone stands in the room. Early October is the practical window if the target is cloth on the track before Deepavali weekend. Lead time depends on the fabric, the track, and how many rooms you do together — ask for the current timing on your cloth when you book, rather than assuming a fixed number of days.
A floor-plan screenshot is not a measure. Aluminium casement reveals, the bulkhead, and the air-con ledge change the drop and the returns. If keys are new, walk the rooms after painting dust has settled, then measure. See BTO curtains for that sequence.
Living room: day-night or sheer so festive light still works
Deepavali in a Singapore flat is a lighting problem as much as a hosting one. Oil lamps, marigold, and a short run of warm fairy lights only work if the glass is not a black cave — and they only stay comfortable if the opposite block cannot see straight into the sofa once the lamps are lit.
Two living-room setups cover most HDB and BTO homes:
- Sheer or a light day cloth on its own, when the room is mainly for guests and you already sleep elsewhere. It softens neighbour views and keeps diya light in the room instead of bouncing off bare glass.
- Day-night curtains on a dual track when the same room has to host by evening and still be usable the next morning. Day layer for festive light and daytime. Denser night layer when you want privacy after guests leave, or when the living room doubles as a sleep spot for family staying over.
Warm gold or a deep wine sheer reads festive without turning the flat into a showroom. The job is still a track that covers the opening — overlaps and returns, not a colour name.
Bedrooms: blackout after a late open house
The living room can stay softly lit. Bedrooms usually cannot. Children who were up for visitors, and relatives on a mattress or the spare room, still need a dark room on Sunday night and, for many families, Monday morning.
A full-height blackout night layer on a proper track is the bedroom job:
- Panels that reach the glass edge, not a short drop that leaves a bright strip.
- Returns under the bulkhead and beside the air-con ledge, where HDB light leaks first.
- A day sheer only if that bedroom is also used in the afternoon. If it is only for sleep, blackout alone is enough.
Indoor curtains and blinds carry a three-year warranty.
What to check in an HDB or BTO flat
Singapore openings rarely match a festive mood board:
- Aluminium casements — measure the reveal, not the brochure width.
- Bulkhead and AC ledge — track depth and where the cloth stacks when it is open, so the dining table and the lamps are not buried in fabric.
- Which room guests actually sit in — living, dining corner, or both. Put the day layer where the lights and people are.
- Which room people sleep in after — master, kids’ room, or a living-room pull-out. That is where the night cloth has to close fully.
- Neighbour blocks through the glass — once interior lights are on, privacy and a usable day layer are the same decision.
A short walk-through before you WhatsApp
- Stand in the living or dining corner at night with a lamp on. Note what the opposite block can see, and whether bare glass kills the warmth of the light.
- Stand in each bedroom at 7am. Note leaks along the casement and above the air-con ledge.
- Decide day job versus night job per room. Do not order blackout for a living room that has to show festive light, or sheer-only for a room someone will sleep in.
- Send us the block and how many openings. We measure on site rather than pricing from a phone photo.
Prime Decor Furnishing measures, makes, and installs for HDB, BTO, and condo homes. Browse curtains and blinds, or message us to book the measure while there is still time before Sunday, 8 November.
Balcony zip blinds are a different job — a seal on an outdoor opening, not the cloth behind your diyas. If you need that later, ask separately. Ziptrak® is a competitor trademark. We sell ZipBlind, with a five-year warranty on that outdoor system. It is not part of this living-room order.
FAQ
When is Deepavali 2026 in Singapore? MOM lists Deepavali as Sunday, 8 November 2026. The 16 June 2025 public-holiday notice says Monday, 9 November 2026, will be a public holiday. The public-holidays page says that Monday applies if your rest day falls on 8 November 2026. Check MOM if your own leave pattern is unusual.
Why measure in early October? Curtains are cut after a site measure. If you want them installed before guests arrive for Deepavali, the measure has to be booked now. Lead time depends on fabric and track — confirm it when you message, do not assume a package timeline.
Day-night or sheer in the living room? Sheer or a light day cloth if the room is for guests and festive light. Day-night if the same opening also needs a night layer for privacy or for someone sleeping there.
Do bedrooms need blackout? Usually yes, for Sunday night and Monday morning after a late open house. The living-room day layer does not do that job.
Can you quote from a photo of the window? No. Every opening is measured on site, and the measure is free.
What warranties do you carry? Three years on indoor curtains and blinds. Five years on ZipBlind outdoor zip blinds, which are a balcony product, not this festive living-room cloth. Ziptrak® is another brand’s trademark.
