Mid-Autumn 2026: Blackout Curtains After Lantern Nights (Singapore)
By Prime Decor Furnishing

Mid-Autumn Festival falls on Friday, 25 September 2026. In Singapore the evenings around it are for lantern walks, gardens, and coming home later than usual - then asking kids or shift workers to sleep while the opposite block is still lit.
Gardens by the Bay runs its Mid-Autumn Festival displays from Saturday 12 September to Sunday 27 September 2026, 6.00pm to 10.00pm, free across Golden Garden, Supertree Grove, Bayfront Plaza and Flower Dome. Battery-operated lanterns only; open fire and candles are prohibited (Gardens by the Bay, checked 17 September 2026). Chinatown keeps a shorter street note: community lanterns at Kreta Ayer Square / Banda Street from 11 September to 4 October 2026, with a “Light a Lantern, Share Your Blessing” procession on 19 September at 6pm, and no large-format street lanterns on Eu Tong Sen / New Bridge Road this year (chinatownsg.com event page).
That calendar is the outing. This post is about the flat when you get back - neighbour-block glow, corridor light, and an early bedtime that still has to stick.
We do not invent curtain “from $X” packages here. Every opening is measured on site. WhatsApp +65 9735 8050 for a free measure.
Lantern evenings, then light that will not sleep
GBTB nights run until 10.00pm. Chinatown evenings stretch the same week. Families walk home with tired children. Shift workers still need a dark room after a late dinner. The problem is not the festival calendar - it is the glass facing the next tower, the common corridor, or a courtyard that never goes fully dark.
A sheer left drawn for daytime privacy softens eyes from the corridor. It does not stop window glow from the opposite block. That is a different job from west-sun heat at noon (already covered in haze and west-sun blackout) and a different job from warm-monsoon sleep humidity (warm monsoon nights). Mid-Autumn week is about evening return + early sleep under neighbour light.
Day-night for the living room; blackout for the sleep room
Most Singapore flats want two behaviours on the same week:
- Living room / corridor-facing openings - soft day cloth for privacy while guests drop by, then a denser night layer when the opposite block lights up after you return from the gardens. That is a day-night curtain pair on a coordinated track.
- Kids’ rooms and shift-work bedrooms - blackout that actually reaches: full height, centre overlap, return to the wall if the track allows. A 3–4 cm gap at an HDB bulkhead or AC ledge is why “we bought blackout” still looks like 9pm glow after a lantern outing.
Living-room day-night for this festival week is already live: Mid-Autumn evenings, day-night curtains.
If the dining table is still a study desk some evenings, keep that angle separate: PSLE study-room curtains. This post stays on festival-week sleep after you come home.
Indoor curtains and blinds carry a three-year warranty.
What to check on the opening before Mid-Autumn week peaks
Bring these notes on your phone before you WhatsApp us:
- Which rooms need early dark first? Kids’ bedrooms and shift-work rooms beat the living-room sheer debate.
- Where does light leak? Bulkhead, AC ledge, centre gap, and side return matter more than fabric swatch colour under festival-week evenings.
- Day layer vs night layer. Many homes keep a soft day cloth drawn and pull blackout only when sleep starts - especially useful when relatives stay late in the living room.
- Balcony or not? Indoor cloth stays indoors. Outdoor openings are a separate track (below).
- Key-collection timing. New BTO and reno flats can stage day sheers early, then add night blackout once dust settles - see BTO curtains.
If you walked HomeFest for an ID shortlist this month, that checklist is already live: HomeFest 2026 curtain checklist. Do not mix booth sequence notes with bedroom blackout measurement.
ZipBlind only if there is a balcony
Indoor rollers fail in wind and rain on a balcony. Outdoor zip blinds run fabric in side zip tracks. Ziptrak® is a registered trademark of another brand. It is not a Prime Decor Furnishing product. We supply ZipBlind outdoor zip blinds, including Somfy-motorised options, with a five-year warranty on the zip-blind system.
HDB balcony work often needs managing agent or MCST (and sometimes HDB) eyes on drawings before drill day. Festival week is a poor time to discover that paperwork still needs a week. Put outdoor openings on their own approval track.
What to do this Mid-Autumn week
- Plan the outing, then plan the return. GBTB runs 6.00pm–10.00pm through 27 Sep; Mid-Autumn Day is Fri 25 Sep.
- Write day-privacy vs night-blackout per room - living room and kids’ rooms are rarely the same cloth job.
- Do not order from a brochure photo. Measure after keys, or when renovation dust clears enough for tracks.
- If a balcony is on the plan, start ZipBlind approval as its own lead time.
